In a magnificent 18th century building by the river La Nive is one of Europe's finest museums. This depicted the Basque cultural history understandable and informative.

BASQUE ARCHITECTURE

Pilgrimshalten St Jean Pied de Port has a unique building from the 15th-century along the city's oldest main street. Bayonne railway old half-timbered houses and winding alleys are worth a walk. St Jean de Luz is intimate and charming neighborhood a stone's throw from "sister village" Socoa with similarly Basque character. Ainhoas the main street is the archetypal, Basque architecture.

Eat and stay

La Tantina de la Playa

In the village of Bidart, directly on the beach. Completely fresh fish and seafood in the Spanish-French cuisine, olive oil-Grilled monkfish with Spanish heat is recommended. The maritime restaurant has magnificent views over the Atlantic Ocean. Loud atmosphere, great prices.

Market Hall in Bayonne

Happy Oyster bar to pause the vid for food shopping in fine market Hall. Every Saturday year round is where outdoor food market. Located on the Quai du Commandant Roquebert;

Socoa

The neighbouring village of St Jean de Luz (they are basically combined) has several charming, unpretentious and affordable restaurants that moves out onto the quay during the summer.

Pierre Oteiza

The uncrowned king ham rescued a dying breed "porc Basque". Today Oteizas loved pigs in green oak woodlands and graze. In the village of Les Aldudes is he shop and simple tasting menu. Air-cured ham, tasty sausage, foie gras and other sweets produced by authentic and unspoiled.

BEACHES

St Jean de Luz

The northern boundary has quiet bathing water in a lagunartad turn. Nice beach, perfect for the beachwalk, swimming and family swimming.

Bidart

Not long but the wider beach. Family Perfect. Close to a couple of excellent, simple beach bars with Basque cuisine and price friendly menus. This served a tasty three-course meal for 10-12 euros.

Biarritz

World-famous beach and surfing. Funny place and can get a little crowded during high season.

Hendaye

Border town against Spanish Hondarribia is a magnificent, broad, long beach. This offered the best beachwalken. If you have time, give Hondarribia a chance with its tapas-bars and beautiful neighborhoods of the early Baroque.
