Scandinavia in March

The month of March in Scandinavia is a great month for travel, because it is in the off-season. This means Scandinavia travelers can get a cheaper vacation in March and it's a popular off-season month for smart travelers on a budget! Many summer activities will be opening this or next month, too.

The weather can still be chilly in March, but is steadily improving. The dreary winter days are now over, and there is much more daylight available now. Also a great month for a...more about March in Scandinavia (along with events, weather information and packing tips).

Let Them Pick You Up!

All the time I witness other travelers arriving at an airport with me, and then trying to arrange for transportation to their hotel or similar local destination. Sound familiar?

Maybe planning ahead is out of style, but for peace of mind, you should book your shuttle service from home after getting your plane tickets. It's not smart to skip planning that part, and you might be waiting for a bus a long time.

Airport shuttles in Stockholm are a cheap and reliable option, and shuttle services in Reykjavik are very popular as well. All are bookable online. And here are airport shuttles in other cities:

Oprah Winfrey

"If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think."

Gore Vidal

"Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn."

Joseph Addison

John Heywood

A difficult name

The old Indian came in at name Agency and said:
-I like to change the name.
-Well, what is your name?
-The big black locomotive whistles and howls in the night.
-Then, I understand that you want to rename. What were you going you instead?
-Tut.

-Well, maybe it, s a caddy. I will certainly look into the hole ...

Abisko K rsavagge-L kktatj kka Bj rkliden Abisko, July 2012

On July 14, was the start of Swedish Alpine Ultra, Nikkaluokta, Abisko, 105 km; D I sj lv r be r of this race 's, I could not participate. My planning was that as well as the 2011 g ra str fold after the participants arrived in m l. But d from Abisko to Nikkaluokta. Now it was not s, much depending on heavy rain.
With a little distance to the 14 July and ultraloppet, I can say that after some of the participants f n tt beg stories and pictures, it was a tough race. That of all the big raining River FL occurred. Much of this I could see n r I p l rdagen tried from Nikkaluokta to Abisko. The E10 was the large rivers in the ditches along the v gene. This I was able to note with st greater clarity p's Sunday n r I tried to Kiruna with luggage belong dure de l pare who got the break.

(F) to see how much water there was on the trail I went p s Monday afternoon about 3 miles into p trail from Abisko.

In st instead of f to wander to Nikkaluokta's best mde I f r g ra the same round as 2011, n namely: Abisko rsavagge kktatj K-L kka Bj rkliden Abisko. Com iv (g) around 9.30 p m Sunday and given p everything raining's I didn't know if it was possible to get around. It was, inter alia, the tt but not's that it became a problem. M tte n some hikers who tipped off about how I'd g f r to avoid the v rsta River FL dena. Shortly before the K rsavaggestugan there is a wide river FL the d r I f last year after's kt a good verg ngsst lle but eventually had to take off my shoes and Wade over. Thought it was less water in r. Took off my shoes and waded across. It was about 50 cm as the deepest. V weather was fine and warm with some clouds.
Sat p the stairs at the K rsavaggestugan and such a bit. Best mde me d to g ra all round. Had the tour posted since former p GPS's it was just f follow the.

Fr n K rsavagge r the f rst a steep ascent p ca 500 m p a str leak of approximately 2 miles; The r's steep that n town must crawl f r to get around. F last year s g I a large stone that l g ra n AV been edge and s g to n at the tipping over and roll down f r fj llsidan. Now there was no stone d r f s probably had gone in connection with sn sm ltningen. It seemed no sp r of the stone.

H r up p 1200 metres there is a fantastic view, sitting on a stone and just enjoying. even if it is a hassle to get up it more n v l v rt this anstr turn. Will g ra if it n sta r.
A number of reindeer stood and watched p me, wondered v l was it was f r rascals as kr p d r.

V l up there after the steep ascent's was about 3.5 miles to L kktatj kkastugan. This str leak was f last year completely t cracked with sn. Now it was less with sn and g p a very stony surface. In addition, sn n soft and bl t. A number of g times stepped me through with the whole leg. At a currently, I got stuck with the leg in lle sn n. Got gr va p back of the l form and a bit down f r to come loose. On other occasions I s s g currently that water gushed under sn n fr n fj llkanten to an sj lite l no longer away. V gade not g ver h r and g around and up-the Rocky fj llkanten.

V l up p 1200 metres s came into clouds that made visibility became's mre. S I got fully trust-the pickled route p GPS. It went well, got to the L kktatj kkastugan around 17: 30 r f some food, I thought. (F) "last year's was a very nice woman who said that it would have dinner's must have best set this in f rv g, but she could v rma a goulash soup and save a v ffla. This was well after having been out for a whole day. Now I got told by a not so nice woman and that Gulaschsoppan was for lunch and it was not now. A v ffla could she g ra. Got into a cold's dan after 30 min. (F) last year I recommended hikers to g to the cabin and take this good soup. In r avr der I.
Then it was to go on to Bj rkliden about 10 km in bl t sn. P v gen down s g I this monster.

Have you eyes with it and a little imagination, one can see much.
Fr n Bj rkliden became the Rallarleden forward to Abisko. Came to Abisko 22,15. The round took 12.5 hours.

It was a h annual tour. We r n sta alone, f except those I m tte in the beginning, and those who were in L kktatj kkastugan. The man's g was a number of reindeer and the sound man h value came from f and it reflects and babbling jokkar.
Can not sl ppa tank p v der who r dde on 14-15 July, cold and rain.
Wonder how m nga walkers such as lower p how fast v weather can be used and that it can get much rain as f r to the impact that bridges washed away.

Do not step on the ducks

Three women die together in an accident and went to heaven. When they got there they were met by St. Peter who said:
-We only have one rule here in heaven ... do not step on the ducks.
So they went into the sky, and sure enough, there were ducks everywhere. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and though they did their very best to avoid them accidentally the first woman accidentally step on one. St. Peter will come to her with the ugliest man she ever saw. St. Peter chains fixed the man at her side and says:
-Your sentence because you stepped on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!
The next day happened to be the second woman to step on a duck and instantly came St. Peter, who did not miss anything, and with it, he had an extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same explanation as to the first woman.
The third woman has observed all this and is, because she did not want to be chained in eternity with an ugly man, very, VERY careful where she puts her feet.
She manages to go months without stepping on a single duck, but one day, St. Peter up to her with the best-looking man she ever saw. Long, long eyelashes, muscular and slim.
St. Peter chains them together without saying a Word. the woman says it all:
-I wonder what I have done to deserve being chained with you for all eternity?
The guy replies:-I do not know how it is with you, but I stepped on a duck! "

Book review: ventyrsfoto

M nga likes to document their sm and great adventure. It can be used to show family and friends what we been with v or f r to n out with v ra adventure to a st more audience. Camera f r d rf r often f select with p excursions and clatters iv g a m off pictures. Sorry all too often the r rr we, or at least I, be disappointed n r we come home (d) we recognize that v ra photos not g r ventyren r justice. The d r Grand landscape may look dull and flat out, the cyclist who we wanted to freeze in a h honest actionpose may be blurred and the d r steep pudert discovered the Hill perhaps most closely resembles a gr n there. (F) to guide us to b better ventyrsbilder have the photographer Fredrik Schenholm together with writer Anders Wingqvist f rfattat book ventyrsfoto with under the title L r you shoot like the pros 9 steps to b better pictures. This book contains a m length useful tips to help help us p v gen with amazing ventyrsbilder and, as Frederick po ngterar, a method to reduce the number of d League pictures and d will it's called lucky-shot ratio.
Fredrik Schenholm r one of Sweden's most renowned ski-and ventyrsfotografer and his images found frequently in Swedish and foreign language outdoortidningar and friluftsm rkenas directories. Frederick h also includes regular photo courses and r all that cut and cut to f rfatta this book on ventyrsfoto. In the book he shares ppenhj rtligt with its photographic workfl those b l begins the ngt before the camera's shutter release is pressed and the picture is taken and ending with an s ld image. This includes steps and the nine workfl each one of these to the gnas a chapter. In the introductory chapter f r we inspiring tips p fotograferingsmilj s and Fredrik ask tell about their favorite places. An important thing to h lla in mind that we do not need ver ka to the other side of the world f to f nga h annual ventyrsbilder. This can equal g rna g race in hemmaskogen and n rmilj n.
(F) to take good ventyrsbilder beh vs s clearly a camera and some peripheral equipment. F to of eight election gives Frederick a thorough complet ng of the more or less n dv qualified equipment in the chapter screen. N the next chapter to the gnas myriad of settings settings that can g ras in SLRs. H r treated everything from shutter speeds and including the cable openings to various fokusl gen.
With a camera and some basic knowledge of baggage following the stf gnas n elements such as composition, different s to f focus p exactly r tt and p how to's that you have a kerst correctly exposed picture. This is a great deal to such lower p, why r f the following chapter provides tips on what to g ra during fotograferingssessionen of conception itself and in sj it CN pass picture. The television final chapters deal with after treatment of the image in your computer and its f rs sales.
I think that the book has a wide l Deepak d b the nyb beginner and more experienced photographers can find information and tips of the v value. It tells of a component if one is familiar with some basic photographic knowledge's that ISOs and bl account openings, but there is absolutely no requirement f to tillgodog himself. The lyrics r l ttl st and pedagogically structured and the various tips and techniques are illustrated with Frederick's own h gklassiga photos, which strongly contributes to an easier and quicker post execution. (D) However, r the book quite carelessly korrekturl st. A lot of spelling errors and grammattiska errors have crept in to the final version. This is obviously nothing that undermines sj lva information, but k is sometimes a little st. P overall, I recommend this book to those who want l ra more about ventyrsfoto f r to come home from his travels and trips with the memory cards full of fantastic cards g r ventyren r justice. I see sj lv v very much forward to try out the various techniques and tips in my own photography.

Hard boots

Oscar begs her nanny to help him put on his boots before he must go out. They are very difficult to take on and Miss really need to take in order to get on the boots.
Once they are in place, says Oscar:
-They are on the wrong feet.
Miss do not believe their eyes when she finds that it's like Oscar said, the boots are actually wrong.
She pulls like a fool in 3 minutes to take off them and starts then to get them on the right foot. In the end, they are in place.
When Oscar says:
-It's not my boots ...
Ms inhale deeply and put the lid on the emotions so as not to damage the small Oscar viewing her with fish eye.
-Ok, she says, we do well by them then.
And so she started with the same training as before.
-Why did you do it sooner? She asks when she is ready.
Oscar responds:
-It's not my boots, it is brorsans, but Mom wants me to have them.
Miss starts to weep uncontrollably but decides that she must help Oscar on with the boots for a third time. Then she lifts up Oscar, puts on his jacket, hat and scarf and asks:
-Where are your gloves?
-I added them in the boots …

Winter Tour!

Top tour, sn bivouac, and k ldskador! Fj and ventyrsledarna embarks on a five-day winter tour-fj.

Who could believe that it was the s l to f k ldskador, or sn can be s en to gr va in. Or s h wonderfully to k mpa himself out of sovs stain in minus 20 degrees f rto g, f r a mountain and then ski down the ka f. It is just n of m many things we l rt us over a week p fj.

To l said to Fj ll-ventyrsledare p lvdalens training centre is incredibly fun and f r l ra a lot. The third week of January went class out-the toughest tour hitils. Although the v derprognosen showed that it would not become hotter n-15 and down to-25 degrees, no one hesitated p to head out in the cold.

A few days after packing and n f preparatory rolled we finally iv g against Gr velsj ns fj llstation, d r we had a short studiebes k. We got to know a little about the histioren behind the old and charming station and how they work (d) r. Do you have the m option s, I think you should check there p a bes k. We rolled on into Norway, d r we parked buses and b started to pack the equipment in the arrange and valla turn your skis. N r were all ready we st first the tte p problem. Erik "Bamse" P r kade very unfortunately sk ra himself in hand. Using lp. v r graduates ski patrol r Jacob Bolld n and his care in rdskunnande it was found that s ret'd beh huh sys. A decision was taken that Bamse and Maria Olsson got ka and f s ret sewn and m take us up the second day after.

D we were p v g, without mobile coverage and away from all the everyday comforts of Hom. We didn't manage l ngt before dusk came. Such fields was knocked up and it was a cozy l gives. We cooked d followed by kr p we m tta and excited into the sovs ckarna and fell asleep.

D we were p v g.

Everyone slept well and was happy and spirited p morning. Today it was time to find a good sn power to gr va bivacker i. We skied into a b ckravin d r there was nice drifts. Now sl r cold and Anna Lundh has no k nsel in f feet. I and Bamse f r to v rma her f feet by stopping into the dom below tr jorna, towards the stomach. We f r ig ng her f insert and bivackbyggandet picks up. To sn can be s h rd! But we did not give up f. After n out seven, eight hours we got to use the gr n t sory no lights and curl up in the sovs ckarna.

You sleep soundly in a bivouac.

"The good v rdskapet" has great importance in v r education. To be a leader with a good v rdskap r very important. Elin Andersson f r h minimum grades in mnet having v cracked us all and handed out a small chocolate piece to each one. Morgan M and Bamse has problems with feet, they r cool and chilled. The hj helps varanda to v rma f feet (f) to cont. N all f tt in the breakfast and l gret become ihoppackat, we give us iv (g) again. Skiing technique and utf rs search with the sledges became today's f first challenge.

Utf rs search sleds.

The cold g r to p mind again I have sv rt to h ll h hands warm during the exercises. But f r up v screen again n r we ski p for a while. There r several pieces of us that have b started f cold f. We take us back to the cars f to search for a new omr to g ra top tours in. I fr gade Amanda Mali's how her f insert the k was used. She answered d that they were cold but that they probably will ig ng soon. I s t gives her that we should f rs ka v rma them. which was lucky, f r n r she f tt off pj xorna showed that the t rna b started to be white. We r more who take turns v rma her f. V r l rare Dennis Franz n watching p and s gives it serious. Now, big boy, Morgan and Amanda n any form of k ldskador p f feet. Dennis brings class and provides that he is proud to be l rare f r us. No gn retains or pulls down hum ret despite the l ga temperature. We f r tv options. To ka to Idrefj ll, sleep in and g ra top tour p St g, or that ka to Rendalss Le d r there is a resthouse as g r to burn in and t lta outside it. Option one, which most probably fairly sj vklart, ka and sleep indoors if the temperature is p-20 degrees. But not f r us aspiring fj lledare. All was quite in agreement that ka to Rendalss Le. S we sat in buses and tried on. We stopped p a gatuk k d r we t lunch and v rmde us. Morgan and Dee chose to ka home (d) had not yet f tt up v screen in f feet and did not want to ventyra them. Amanda's f feet had become hot and she chose to tta. We replaced the classic tour skis against randonn equipment. Next, we tried D into the Woods and beat l.

To the top!

Top Touring Today.
Today it was time f r what we all v expected p, top tour. Hum ret was p peak and we had n gra kilometre front r us p flat ground before the ascent towards the top (b) started. We were more that had problems with f feet s we had to stop a few times n g f r to v rma us, take out the shoe soles and s tta p dry socks. I had sj lv en rt to f up v screen in f feet. But with some tips and tricks from each other, we were hot. We were television groups, a group that had to search the home of lvdalen for various reasons and a group who would sleep a night to p fj. The first group came a bit up p sydtoppen by Rendals len before it came time f r them to catch back. I was in the second group and v ra tour leader Kim Bergsten, Elin and Jacob asks fixed we had to watch tv-us (h) jdmeter. We k fit p and it is harder than you think g f r. N r Bell was 13: 00 drug fog and visibility was d lig. Elin decided to stop and have lunch and see if the fog would pull ahead or if we were to search down. The fog l fixed not a we b started ka utf r. A real sk n k sensation to have k flying his way up and then swoop down f r Hill in h honest pudersn. We slipped in principle the entire v gen back to such fields. With a smile p l PR event do I fix food and crawls down the sovs stain f r last night at t lt f r the h r g string.

V more cold f. Sorry rr took the battery to the camera end p v g s we got no more pictures.

At 04: 45 v cks we and Bank l gret without taking breakfast, takes us three kilometers to the buses and bundles in all equipment. We finish this tour also with a hotel breakfast, this g ng p Idrefj ll.

It was a h rd week and I l value me incredibly much!

Flattered man replied:
O Yes, I agree with you. This must be a sign from God!
The woman continued:
And look at this, here's another miracle! My car was totally destroyed, but my bottle of wine didn't break. God must want us to drink this wine and celebrate our good luck.
Then, she handed over the bottle to the man. The man nods and agree, open the bottle and drink up to half and then hands the bottle back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, puts on the CAP and leave it back to the man. The man asked:

Norwegian gum

A Swedish sits and eats breakfast at a cafe.
Alongside him sits a Nevanlinna who chews gum.
Uncouth initiates the Norwegian:
-Do you eat Swedes whole bread?
The Swede grudgingly let breakfast be and responds:
-Yes, of course!
The Norwegian plays with the chewing gum in his mouth and says:
-We do not with us, in Norway we eat only the innermost of the bread.
The edges of the bread are collected in a container, processed and shaped into croissants
and sold to Sweden.
The Norwegian asks further:
-Do you eat Marmalade to the bread also?
The Swede responds easily annoyed:
-Yes, of course.
Whereas Norwegian loudly chew gum, he says:
-Not with us, in Norway we only eat fresh fruit for breakfast. The shells and
the remains are collected in a container, processed into jams and sold to
Sweden.
Now the Swede's turn to ask:
-Tell me one thing, do you have sex in Norway?
North man smiles and responds:
-Yes, of course we have sex.
The Swede leans across the table and asks:
-What do you do with the condoms once you used them?
"We throw them!, is Norwegian.
Now begins the Swede le ... Then he says:

process them, melt them and sells them to Norway as chewing gum.

Something unusual

A man went to a brothel. He said the brothel her mother that he wanted to have one of the rarest kind.
-' Yes, ' she said. Go up to room no. 7.
When he is there, a donna with giant buds in. She sits on him & says:
-Shh shhh, you hear monsoon winds?
-Oh yes, Yes, says the man.
She slaps the bulbs in the head at him and says:
-Do you know coconuts falling down from the trees?
A little dazed, he says:
-Oh, Yes Yes!
She sets herself up, urinating on him and says:
-Do you feel monsunregnet whip against your body?
-Eh Yes, says the man who now begins to be quite shocked.
She pushed her ass up in his face at him and releases the world's brakare and asks:
-Do you hear the Thunder that rumbles in the mountains?
But then flies the man up and throw on her clothes.
-Where are you? ask horan. Then the man says:
-It is well damn no one who wants to fuck this fucking weather!

How Not to Get Shocked in Sweden

Europlug / Schukoplug Outlet in Europe ? PD ImageDepending on the sense of humour one has, it can be rather funny to witness: a first-time visitor to Sweden force-squeezes his battery charger in a Swedish outlet, and receives the shock of a lifetime. Literally. He was just a little jumpy afterwards and had a new, really "electrifying" hairdo.
Of course, that visitor should have at least asked about the power outlet issue - instead of trying to force a Canadian power plug into a European power outlet in the middle of Stockholm, Sweden. Language Basics for Everyone

Want to learn a new language this year?

Over 5,000 languages exist today, but linguists and scientists say that there may be only 2,000 by the next decade as rare languages die out. The Scandinavian languages are not in danger of dying out any time soon, though - there are more than 20 million speakers of Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian today! Just make sure to get a few basic words down before you travel - it makes your trip so much more enjoyable.

When translating, be careful not to use phrases with double-meaning, though! A while ago, a truly memorable lesson was learned by the Swedish manufacturer Electrolux, when the company initiated their ad campaign in the US. They marketed the then latest top of the range vacuum cleaners using a memorable English slogan: "Nothing sucks like an Electrolux".

Hugh Macleod

Ecclesiastes

The new Fireman's system

The old man comes home from work one day and tell the missus:
-You know, we have a great system at the fire station. One call and we take all of our jackets. When the second ring slides we all down the pole. Third-place ring and we are ready to run away.
-It's great, "said the wife.
The Man:
-From now on, the same system here in the House. When I call out number one – I want you to dress of you naked. When I call the runner up – you jump in bed and when you hear the third – and we'll göka all night, "said fireman with a wink.
So the next night when he comes home from work and shouts:
-Ettan ...
The Lady takes off her all clothes.
He screams the runner-up ...
And she jumps into bed.
-Third, grunts, and they start göka but after just a few minutes shouting missus:
-Fourth Grade ...
-What does the fourth grade now then? ask the man
Wife:
-More slang … You're not even close to the fire …

The Scandinavian Mardi Gras

Are there Mardi Gras carnivals in Scandinavia? Certainly! The largest carnival in Northern Europe can be found in Aalborg, Denmark with colorful parades and celebrations. Now for the bad news: it doesn't take place in February.
The carnival in Aalborg is a popular annual event and takes place in May. That way, Scandinavians ensure that they can wear glittery bikini outfits and exotic costumes in warmer temperatures (see Weather in Scandinavia).
In 1982, four people created the carnival in Aalborg and since then, this annual event has grown into the largest carnival in Scandinavia: more than 100.000 people come together to enjoy summer and hot samba rhythms these days. Read more about THE Carnival in Scandinavia!

Meeting with a spirit

Once upon a time there was an old woman who went to the beach. There sat an old man on a bench, and beside him sat a small man and played on a piano. The old woman walked up and said to the old man:
-Wow, that was a little man next to you.
-Yes, I met at a spirit and I got requests for me what I wanted, "replied the old man.
-Uh? Would I be able to encounter this spirit?
The old man replied, Yes, and called on the spirit.
The spirit asked the old woman what she wanted and she replied:
-100 million I want.
The genie nodded and disappeared and vips, so was there 100 melons beside old lady.
-But I said million, melons, complained about the old woman.
The old man answered:
-The spirit is bad. Do you really think I wanted me a 20 cm long pianist???
